Return to the Wild Self
25th November - 1st December
You are invited to step away from the pace of everyday life, and into a landscape where time moves differently.
Set within the remote wilderness of Mkomazi National Park at the beautiful Mkomazi Wilderness Retreat, this experience offers space to slow down, reconnect, and immerse yourself in the natural world.
Designed for a small number of guests, it is both intimate and intentionally unstructured allowing each day to unfold with a sense of ease and presence.
Set within one of Tanzania’s most remote landscapes, this experience offers a complete departure from pace, pressure, and noise.
Days are shaped by the rhythm of the wild - expansive, unhurried, and deeply grounding. There is space here to step away, to reconnect, and to experience a different way of being.
About Mkomazi
Mkomazi National Park is one of Tanzania’s most remote and quietly remarkable landscapes.
Stretching across vast open plains with Mount Kilimanjaro on the horizon, it offers a sense of space and stillness that is increasingly rare.
Over recent decades, Mkomazi has become one of East Africa’s great conservation success stories, now home to abundant wildlife, including large elephant populations and the critically endangered black rhino.
From the camp ‘Mkomazi Wilderness Retreat’, set above the park’s main watering hole, wildlife moves freely through the landscape below creating a constant yet gentle connection to the wild.
The Journey
Your experience begins with arrival into Kilimanjaro International Airport, with recommended flight routes from the UK and Europe.
On arrival, you will be met and taken by private transfer to a luxury lodge in Arusha, where you can unwind after travel and settle in for the evening.
The following morning,
onward travel into Mkomazi National Park will be arranged,
either via scheduled bush flight or private charter (depending on group size)
ensuring a smooth and seamless arrival into the landscape that defines the experience ahead.
Mkomazi is not a place people pass through, it is a place people arrive into.
What to Expect?
Most mornings begin out in the wilderness, with game drives through Mkomazi’s vast and untouched landscape, where wildlife moves freely, and encounters unfold naturally.
On return to camp, time is set aside for Yoga / Meditation, allowing space to slow down and reconnect, either in the late morning or as the day softens into the afternoon.
Throughout your stay, you will experience a blend of exploration and stillness from visiting the Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary and sharing a bush lunch in the wild, to evening game drives that unfold into sundowners as the light fades.
Afternoons are intentionally unstructured, offering time to rest, reflect, or simply enjoy the surroundings, while evenings gather around the fire under open skies.
This is an experience designed to feel spacious, grounding, and deeply connected to the natural world.
Everything has been thoughtfully considered to allow you to fully immerse yourself in the experience.

This retreat is being held in a place that means a great deal to me.
I grew up in Tanzania, spending much of my childhood in the bush on safari, surrounded by wild, open landscapes that felt both grounding and expansive.
Mkomazi Wilderness Retreat has always stood out as somewhere especially memorable, and it’s where we celebrated my mother’s 60th birthday as a family.
To now return and host a retreat here feels incredibly special, and I’m really looking forward to sharing this experience with you.
